MUMBAI: A newborn was recently found abandoned on the fourth floor of Khadayata Bhavan Mandal in Charni Road.
On May 16, the V P Road police got a call from residents of the building, saying they could hear a baby cry on the fourth floor. When the police reached the spot, they found a baby girl on the fourth floor's window grille. "We found the baby on the grille on the fourth floor.
We inquired in the adjacent house, where we found a man. He said he had no idea how the baby got there. We are probing the matter," said sub-inspector Nandakumar Koli.
The baby was admitted to B Y L Nair Hospital. "She had a minor head injury and suffers from jaundice," said a doctor from the hospital. The baby is doing fine and may be discharged in a day or two, said Dr Shiv Raj Das, deputy dean of the hospital. But, cops said the C T scan report was awaited. After the baby is discharged, she will be sent to an NGO.
A case under Section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it) has been registered.
